Sophie McKeand is a freelance poet and educator from Y Gogledd Cymru whose community work explores using the arts to build stronger communities. She was shortlisted for the Out Spoken Poetry Awards (2015) and longlisted for the Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition in 2014. Her writing can be found in publications such as Poetry Wales, Dark Mountain, Earthlines and Tears in the Fence, and her second poetry pamphlet Hanes was launched in November 2015. She has performed at Wenlock Poetry Festival, Green Man, Wilderness, Dinefwr and theGelynion/Enemies Project (curated by Poetry Wales), as well as being writer/producer on various projects for National Theatre Wales TEAM.
Sophie regularly facilitates workshops for organisations such as Literature Wales, Arts Council Wales, Oriel Wrecsam, Age Cymru and Barnardos with a focus on working with marginalised groups in society.
She was part of the core Dark Mountain team from 2012 to summer 2015 and remains a committed Mountaineer.
