Matt Miles is a North Carolina-based writer, journalist, and poet. His work has appeared in Dark Mountain, Minding Nature , Earth Island Journal, Hakai Magazine, Modern Farmer, the Garrison Institute’s Lineages column, and elsewhere. He enjoys climbing, hiking, running, and foraging among other outdoor activities. With Tasha Greer, Matt lives, works, and experiments with sustainable living and self-sufficiency projects at the reLuxe Ranch, a whole-systems farmstead in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Present company there includes a livestock guardian dog in training, four cats, one turkey, and numerous goats, ducks, and chickens. Matt is currently at work on a novel set in Depression-era Appalachia.
