Eight Fires: the Winter Sessions

Four online gatherings to explore creative land-based practice

Join the Dark Mountain team in the Halcyon Days around Winter Solstice to find out how to build this collaborative practice for the coming year, inspired by our new handbook Eight Fires. With fellow practicioners, contributors and readers around the world.

These gatherings aim to strengthen the relationships between people and places and to and foster a culture that can both weather the storm of current crises and work in relationship with the more-than-human world.  Our sessions will centre around the fourteen days either side of the winter solstice, when it was once believed that the mythic Alcyone, transformed into a kingfisher, would nest by the shore in peace because her father, the god of the winds, had calmed the waves.

As well as sharing of stories, tools and practices and discussion with fellow explorers, these sessions are an invitation to pause at the turning of the year, to create a piece of work within the contemplative space of the Halcyon Days.

The sessions will be hosted by Charlotte Du Cann and Ava Osbiston  alongside  Dougie Strang, Nick Hunt and Mark Watson. who all took part in the original fire workshops and this recent publication.
