Uncivilised Arts

Still from 'Attempt at the Ocean - not-to-touch-the-ground' by Patrik Qvist (issue 7)

It may have begun as a collaboration between two writers, but Dark Mountain soon slipped beyond the bounds of the written word. Today, the visual and performing arts are strongly represented in the pages of our books, as well as at the events and gatherings that have taken place around this project.

The encounter with other art forms has taken us in surprising directions. There’s been a year-long Dark Mountain Workshop at Sweden’s national theatre a special issue in which all the artwork was painted on the skins of roadkill deer and collaborations with The Extraction Project. art.earth and the Wilderness Art Collective.

In this section, you’ll meet some of the artists we’ve collaborated with or featured in our books, and learn more about the stories behind their work.
